How Is The Power Of Wind Now Being Used?
As fossil fuels get more scarce individuals are looking for different ways to produce their own energy. A home wind mill is one of the main topics people are checking out for their home. However, wind is one of the most natural destroyers but can have large benefits by turning that destructive energy into power we can use. More countries are seeing those benefits and are trying to create different ways of taping into that power for their cities. Wind power is basically the conversion of wind energy into a form people can use. According to the World Wind Energy Report of 2008, wind energy put out 1.5% of the earths electricity usage and is still growing immensely. Since 2005 it has doubled!
Wind energy as a power source is great as an alternative to fossil fuel because of a lot of reasons. First, the source of the energy is bountiful. With wind there is an limitless amount of it and also it is broadly distributed so people are able to receive it anyplace around the globe. Also, wind is a renewable energy source that is clean in that it doesn’t put out any greenhouse gas emissions hostile to the environment. Still, the problem with wind is it not being constant in one area all the time. With wind sometimes it isn't blowing at all but also there are times when there burst times. It’s said that because so much power is generated by higher wind speeds most of the energy is produced during the short burst times. For example, in 2002 Lee Ranch did a sample of their wind turbines and found that half their energy was gained during just 15% of the time the windmills were operating.
Comparing other energy sources, such as fossil fuels, the environmental effects of wind power are quite small. Wind power is great in that it doesn’t put out any air pollution and doesn’t need any fuel to create the power. People are now beginning to see the benefits of this and are making windmills at their homes to get off the dependence of the electrical company. An excellent benefit is that windmills can be connected to the local grid. So people can use that for their storage of the power and displacing purchased power with local production when it’s accessible. Homes are also able to be off the grid and use batteries or photovoltaic systems to keep the energy created. Residences can then hold onto that energy until they need to use it.
People are starting now to search for different ways of constructing their own home wind turbine. Home owners need to first check to see which model would work best for their home. People can either choose from the vertical axis or horizontal axis wind turbine design. The best model for a home that has many obstacles in the way would be a vertical axis over that of a horizontal axis. But as wind turbines become more popular the costs of building your own windmill will continue to drop to make it affordable for everyone. How can I make a wind mill? For wind power?
I want to help go green. So I want to make a wind mill. Not a huge one, but a small one for my back yard. So I was wondering if anyone can find me good instructions online. I saw a few using a fan but need more info. I don't want to waist a lot of money, so the cheaper the better. Thanks!
try one of the following

I like the last one as it seems less complicated
