Current Developments in Home Solar Power
Many homeowners would save a lot of cash every year by using a solar power system to reduce or eliminate their electricity bill. They will never again have to worry about another electric bill if they install a properly sized solar panel array. Some homeowners, though, encounter problems that prevent them from getting the return on investment that they had hoped for. Some of these issues have been overcome in recent years with improvements to the solar power technology and these innovations make these systems the perfect answer for most homeowners. These developments apply with both a purchased solar panel and a Do It Yourself solar panel.
The biggest concern for most homeowners that are considering installing a solar panel system is does their home have the proper orientation to the sun to be able to take advantage of solar power. For solar power systems to operate at peak efficiencies, a home has to have a roof that faced south if they were located in the northern hemisphere. As the sun travels across the sky, a southern exposure ensures that the solar panels get a good amount of sun through the day. Older panels had a very specific need to constant sun exposure for most of the day. Power output could be significantly affected if positioning was just a little off.
Modern solar panels solve this problem by using more efficient solar cells in their construction. Besides producing more electricity with similar amount of sunlight, these newer solar cells can also tolerate a more severe angle relative to the sun. Many locations that were not good choices for solar power before can now be used because of this wider tolerance. This makes them a perfect fit for installations that have a lees than perfect alignment for maximum solar power generation. During periods of diminished sunlight, like on cloudy days, these newer solar panels will produce more electricity than older ones, in addition to these situations that are out of traditional alignment. Many older panels had to be rotated to maintain this direct angle with the sun, but newer ones don't. So, many people can now do a home built solar panel installation.
This is quite an advantage over older panels that had to have a lot of consistent sun in order ot produce electricity. Because of this, older panels were inactive when the sun was rising in the morning and setting in the late afternoon. Even though there was sunlight, they could not produce power because the sunlight was not of a sufficient level to get them started. The newer solar panels can take advantage of these lower levels of sunlight and will produce power proportional to the level of sunlight available. They will produce maximum power during mid-day when the sun is at it’s peak, but will still generate electricity, though smaller amounts, as long as some sunlight is available. Because they are able to produce more power for a longer time each day, these newer solar panels can produce more total power each year. Homeowners who previously could not justify the cost of a solar power system now can because of the significant additional power these newer solar panels can provide.
One of the best ways to increase the resale value of your home is with a solar power system. No matter whether you supplement the electricity provided by the power company or supply all of the electricity needs of your house, a solar power system will definitely increase the value of your home. A simple diy solar charger can be a great first solar project.
SolarCycle, a Sun-Powered USB Port for You Bike (Wired - Gadget Lab)
If you want to charge your gadgets while you ride your bike, then the best way
has been to think ahead and get the bike fitted with a dynamo hub when you buy
it. Now, there's another option: a seat-post-mounted solar panel. It's called
the SolarCycle Delux, and it comprises an aluminum rack along with the [...]
