MULTICOLOURED NUPTUALS ARE ALL THE RAGE

Brides are constantly looking for new ways of expressing their wedding ‘wows’.

Every bride looks for the ‘wow’ factor – even if the celebration is a low-key ceremony on the beach or sophisticated and traditional elegance.  It may be the dress, the retinue’s attire, the hair, the venue, the décor, the music, the speeches, the cake, the food or the flowers – but we all hope for that something special that will have the guests awestruck.

As more and more brides prefer to tackle tradition than follow it, colourful wedding flowers are taking centre stage.  Traditional white weddings are still in vogue but bright colours are taking more of the centre stage.

Here are a few more daring combinations that are sure to be truly ‘wow’derful`..

’R’ is for red and romance.  Red is guaranteed to be striking and dramatic and it combines well with white.  It’s used more often during the colder months, but there’s no time limit on when red symbolises passion, love and beauty – so fire it up anytime of the year!  A red wedding dress could be made of luxurious velvet or silk, teamed with romantic red roses.

Yellow is the colour of sunshine – what better way of celebrating happiness?.  It’s bright and breezy and with its symbols of happiness and friendship, is the perfect colour for a warm wedding.  As not everyone has skin tone that is complemented by a bright yellow, it’s worth having a look at some of the softer, more pastel shades such as ivory and pale lemon that combine well with white, green and blue.  For flower types that bring the sun out, try freesias, daffodils, roses, lilies and sunflowers.

More brides are also going for gold and silver as their bridal colours.    This is one sure way of making your wedding shine.  Silver satin or gold silk are two ways of mixing up the metallics.   Golden flowers are as rare as ...well golden flowers, so it’s all about accessorising to create a glamorous golden look.  It’s easier to create a silver look with flowers and foliage (accessories too), and silver or grey foliage will look magical with white flowers.

’Green’ weddings in colour and in conscience are also gaining ground.  It’s a fresh and inspirational colour and fabulous to have fun with.  Most colours go well with green and it looks fabulous on its own too.  Green foliage with its varying shades and textures provides inspiration, whilst green flowers such as lisianthus, chrysanthemums, young hydrangeas, limes, bamboo and gladioli work well.

Black dresses are strutting their stuff on the catwalk and down the aisle as more daring brides make a bold statement.  Not for the fainthearted- it takes courage to wear a black bridal gown but it’s guaranteed to get tongues wagging!.  A suggestion from a Perth florist, Angel Flowers is to dye fresh flowers to create ‘black’ blooms.  Special effects can then be created using accessories like ribbon, bows and pebbles.

Brown is far from boring and is popular for autumn or winter weddings as it evokes a sense of warmth.   Some brides are opting for gowns of luxurious chocolate velvet or brocade, while sleek, tailored bridal outfits look fantastic in rich silks, tweeds and wools.  Some beautiful brown flowers include magnolia, pussy willow, chrysanthemum and nandina.

White is still the wedding favourite, but colour is gaining ground.   For more ideas on wedding flowers and colour schemes, talk to your local professional Perth florist for inspiration, practical advice and guidance.
