How Vital Is Your Fitness For Kite Surfing?

The sport of kitesurfing has seen its popularity soar in years of late. Incredibly, the sport is seeing its participation levels rise faster than all other water sports according to the sport's national governing body. It is also one of the fastest growing extreme sports in general. If you’re thinking of getting into the sport however, you’ll need to get your body into shape. This is what you should be focusing on.

  • Upper Body Strength. As areas of general fitness go, this has to be among those of greatest importance to train. The upper body is responsible for around 75% of the work load when you're on the water and if you want any chance of staying in control, it is vital these muscles are conditioned. The main muscle group you need to work on are the deltoids (shoulder muscles). These are responsible for a lot of the movements and are also stabilising muscles. Also focus on the pectoral muscles and those of the upper back

  • Core Strength. Due to fact there is so much movement and various directions of force taking place in the sport, your core muscles should be well trained. One very good way to improve your overall core strength abilities is to use a core-stability ball. Weights will also need to be including in your core work to enable you to replicate the force levels that you would experience when actually performing the sport. Often the kite will want to pull you in a direction you do not want to go so it will be your developed core strength that will let you remain planted

  • Aerobic Fitness. Whilst the sport might not appear to be aerobically based, you will still need to work on your heart and lungs. Because so much demand will be put on lots of different muscles, they will be requiring vast amounts of oxygen and producing lots of carbon dioxide and lactic acid. Without strong lung and heart function to get the oxygen around the body and take way the bi-products from the system, fatigue will kick in quickly. Cycling or running are very good methods to develop your CV fitness.

do i have to use HE laundry soap with a fisher paykel washer?

I just bought a fisher paykel WA37TG1 high efficiency, top loading washer and I don't know if I have to use HE laundry soap or regular. Anyone help?

What does your manual say?

I've discovered that if i use half the amount of the 2x concentrated regular soap, it works just fine. It's a matter of too much suds. So I get to buy the cheap soap, and use half of it, I win both ways.

Watch the suds level to make sure it doesn't get ultra sudsy in there. If it does, just run it with nothing added after the load is done (to rinse the soap out of the clothes), and use less next time. It's really not rocket science.

I also discovered that using the HE type fabric softener is a bad idea because it's way way too concentrated for the tiny amount of water those things use. I go out of my way to find the "regular strength" stuff and my clothes no longer smell like they've been fumigated for weeks.

I think some of that is mythology and marketing.
